Black Hills Fire Advisory Board (BHFAB) – Objective and Purpose

The objective of the Black Hills Fire Advisory Board (BHFAB) is to support effective coordination, policy development, and continuous improvement in fire management across South Dakota. The board's primary purposes include:

  • Agreement Review:
    To review the Forest Fire Suppression Agreement and related addendums between the South Dakota Wildland Fire Division and cooperating fire departments, and to recommend changes and improvements to ensure clarity, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.

  • Guidelines and Standardization:
    To develop guidelines and procedures that promote coordination of agency fire management and fire suppression efforts throughout the state. This includes the establishment of standardized rates for all contracted fire suppression equipment and personnel in South Dakota, with formal recommendations submitted to the South Dakota Interagency Fire Council.

  • Information Exchange:
    To provide a forum for the open exchange of ideas, experiences, and best practices related to wildland fire and other fire-related activities, fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
