Testing Process Dates to qualify for the Civil Service Firefighter List
- CPAT Practice and Testing: January 10, 2026. Location/Time: Laramie, WY - TBD
- Written Exam: January 15, 2026, 6:00pm at the Municipal Operations Center, 4373 N 3rd St, Laramie, WY
- Written Exam: January 16, 2026, 9:00am at the Municipal Operations Center, 4373 N 3rd St, Laramie, WY

Qualifications
To be considered for employment with the Laramie Fire Department, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be 19 years of age.
- Have graduated from an accredited high school or successfully completed the GED (General Education Development) test.
- Be physically fit to perform the essential functions.
- Have Wyoming or National Registry EMT at the time of hire.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
Hiring Process
- Submit an application and take a standardized written civil service exam, which tests general competency in the context of the fire service.
- Candidates with scores of 70% or higher will be invited to continue in the physical task test (C-PAT), which is judged on a pass/fail basis.
- Successful candidates will then undergo an oral evaluation, which assesses personal traits related to success as a Laramie firefighter. A score of 70% or higher is required, and the average of the oral and written tests must be at least 75% to be placed on the eligibility list.
- The eligibility list is valid for 2 years or until Civil Service decertifies the list. If a vacancy arises during this period, one of the top five individuals on the list may be selected based on an additional interview, background checks, and a physical examination.
Salary Range
- Annual pay range for firefighters: $57,900.00-$69,179.07
