Qualifications

To be considered for employment with the Laramie Fire Department, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

1. Be a U.S. citizen.
2. Must be 19 years of age.
3. Have graduated from an accredited high school or successfully completed the GED (General Education Development) test.
4. Be physically fit to perform the essential functions.
5. Have Wyoming or National Registry EMT at the time of hire.
6. Must pass a criminal background check.

Hiring Process

• Submit an application and take a standardized written civil service exam, which tests general competency in the context of the fire service.
• Candidates with scores of 70% or higher will be invited to continue in the physical task test (C-PAT), which is judged on a pass/fail basis.
• Successful candidates will then undergo an oral evaluation, which assesses personal traits related to success as a Laramie firefighter. A score of 70% or higher is required, and the average of the oral and written tests must be at least 75% to be placed on the eligibility list.
• The eligibility list is valid for 2 years or until Civil Service decertifies the list. If a vacancy arises during this period, one of the top five individuals on the list may be selected based on an additional interview, background checks, and a physical examination.

Salary Range

• Annual pay range for firefighters: $57,900.00-$69,179.07
