Victim Specialist Program
The Pennington County Sheriff's Office and Rapid City Police Department established the joint Victim Specialist Program in 2016. Victims and their families suffer, grieve and seek justice and are often overwhelmed with feelings of terror, confusion and anger. The Victim Specialist Program strives to ensure every victim is treated with fairness and respect. A Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant funds two full-time Victim Specialist positions to help crime victims and their families navigate the criminal justice system and cope with crime.
How Can Our Victim Specialists Assist?

Offer insight, explanation into criminal justice system, notice of court dates, legal proceedings

Connect victims with needed services

Assist with victim compensation applications

Provide special services to child victims
