With the assistance of a state funded grant, the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET) has added additional drug agents to help identify, disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations in our community. PCSO Sergeant Thad Mason supervises this multi-agency task force that includes members of the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, Rapid City Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, and the South Dakota National Guard. UNET works in close cooperation with federal law enforcement agents, the South Dakota Attorney General's Office and the United States Attorney's Office. The task force strives to educate the community while also holding drug traffickers accountable through federal and state prosecution. Meth and heroin usage are continuing to increase in Pennington County from previous years.
