Central District Spring Fire School - Wessington Springs Fire Station

AG RESCUE: BEYONE THE GRAIN BIN                                                                                                                       Full day. The agriculture industry is unique! As a Firefighter are you ready to respond to an incident on a farm? Course Description: This Ag rescue course is designed to be a one-day class to assist Individual rescuers in honing their skills in unique area of the modern farm. This course will be fast paced and hands on. Only a short time will be spent in the classroom, the bulk will be in skills rotations. The students need to arrive with a attitude of learning. Requirements Students must bring proper PPE to include wildland gear, steel-toed boots, hard hats, gloves and safety glasses. PUMP OPERATOR TRAINING                                                                          Half day class offered both AM and PM First Line Apparatus Training will be bringing their pump simulator to Wessington Springs on April 12th! This pump class is ideal for the first time pump operator or someone looking to improve their skills. This class is 4 hours and will be offered both AM and PM. These classes fill up quickly at state fire school so don't miss this chance! Spots are limited on this one so get signed up early. Instructor: Chris Noeldner

WILDLAND FIRE ASSESMENT PROGRAM                                                                  Half day PM only. Is your community safe from wildfires? This class will walk you through the steps you can take to protect your home and property from wildfire. This information is brought to you by the South Dakota Firefighters Associate, National Volunteer Fire Council and U S Forest Service. The class will be open to everyone interested and will be offered in the afternoon only. Instructor: Charlie Kludt, President, SDFA

FIREFIGHTER REHAB: TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN

AM class only. Firefighting is hard work, and our risk of injury or death increases substantially as we become fatigued. So, what are you doing to reduce the chances of firefighter death or injury? In this class Jerauld County Ambulance officials will discuss their rehab program, what to look for and how/why you should implement a rehabilitation program. This class is a good fit for all firefighters and EMS personnel. RURAL WATER SUPPLY                                                                                AM Class only. The class will discuss sources of water including conventional and non-conventional for wildland and structure fires.

The class will also discuss

1 Rural water supply in non and limited hydrant areas

2 Typical and non-typical fill and dump site operation

3 Some examples of participant water supply methods and techniques

4 Drafting, relay pumping and dry hydrant operations

The class will look at some typical water supply vehicles and equipment.
