This year's presenters:
LJAY GEIST - LJay Geist has been in the fire service since 2009. After being a volunteer for a couple years he quickly knew he was ready to go career. LJay holds the rank of driver for the Garden City, KS Fire Department assigned to Firehouse 2. He is part of their wildland team and has instructed three recruit academies for the department, has presented at the Mid America F.O.O.L.S. Conference, several regional conferences and been a guest on the National Fire Radio Podcast. In his spare time he enjoys time with kids, hunting, golfing, wildland firefighting and speaking at conferences.
- Tailboard Leadership - Leading From Bottom To Top is a lecture class LJay Geist created after dealing with both good and bad leadership in the fire service. What started out as a discussion with a good friend quickly turned into my first opportunity to present a lecture at the Mid America FOOLS Conference in Oklahoma City in October of 2021. Since, I have had the opportunity to present this lecture in seven different states. This lecture and PowerPoint discusses the importance of informal leadership at the firefighter level all the way to formal leadership through Company Officers and Chiefs. It’s a great lecture to open the eyes of many departments on the importance of informal leadership, training, and equipping the future of the fire service with great leaders.
It’s up to everyone one of us to lead the way. Whether around the firehouse or on the battle ground, our mission matters. That starts with good leadership at every level within your organization. Every person of every rank is sure to take something valuable away from this class. - The Impact of One - Are YOU the one within your organization that impacts the culture in a positive way? For many departments ONE person can make an impact. Whether good or bad it can be detrimental to your culture. During this lecture we are going to combat complacency, find out how to WIN the mission within the walls of your firehouse, and how one person can positively impact their culture. Get ready for a high energy, high octane, two hours of good conversation and morale building.
DENNIS REILLY - Dennis Reilly is a forty-nine-year fire service veteran and is a retired Fire Chief and is the Owner of The First Line Fire Service Training Company LLC. Dennis has served as the in Chief in Pittsburg, Kansas and Sunrise Beach, Missouri, an Assistant in North Carolina & California and retired as a Battalion Chief in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. During his time in New Jersey, Dennis became one of the original members of the New Jersey Urban Search & Rescue Task Force 1. As part of Task Force 1 the Chief made several deployments including to New York City as part of the response to the Terrorist Attacks of 9/11.
